The end of Gameweek 28 sees us start the final stretch of the season. There were some spectacular results this weekend. Man City crushed crosstown rivals Man United 4-1 in the Manchester Derby to cement their spot in first. Liverpool picked up a hard-fought 1-0 victory over West Ham to stay in second place. Chelsea capitalised on their DGW with a 3-0 and 3-1 win over Burnley and Norwich respectively, while there were also big wins for Arsenal (3-2 vs Watford) and Spurs (5-0 vs Everton) this weekend to maintain their strong pushes for the top 4. FPL saw a big average of 68 points as many managers utilized chips to score 100+ points this GW. I am proud to say every player recommended last week returned points, a first for me this season! Let’s hope I can finish the season off strongly!
Gameweek 28 top 3 performers:
1. Matthew Cash – 29 points (11 points vs Southampton; 18 points vs Leeds)
2. Kai Havertz – 26 points (14 points vs Burnley; 12 points vs Norwich)
3. Phillippe Coutinho – 23 points (13 points vs Southampton; 10 points vs Leeds)
Let’s take a look at the picks from this week, reviewing their GW28 performance and previewing their GW29 points potential, looking at recent form and favourable fixtures
1.Sadio Mané – £11.7m (MID); 3.7% ownership
GW28 review – 8 points (90 minutes, one goal, clean sheet)
GW29 preview – Brighton (A); Arsenal (A)
Mané has been overshadowed by Salah (£13.2m) and Jota (£8.3m) for Liverpool midfield options and yet he’s managed 12 goals and four assists this season, including four goals and an assist in his last three fixtures. The DGW presents a good opportunity for a possible differential option, especially with the Senegalese man now playing as an OOP forward.
2. Dejan Kulusevski – £6.1m (MID); 4.8% ownership
GW28 review – 10 points (90 minutes, two assists, clean sheet, 1BPS)
GW29 preview – Man United (A); Brighton (A)
Kulusevski has been a revelation since joining from Juventus in January. As part of ta lethal front three with Kane (£12.3m) and Son (£10.8m), he’s helped Spurs pick up crucial points in the race for the top 4. Two goals and three assists in six games are impressive stats and with a DGW against a shaky United and leaky Brighton could see big returns.
3. Bukayo Saka – £ 6.5m (MID); 24.3% ownership
GW28 review – 12 points (90 minutes, one goal, one assist, 2BPS)
GW29 preview – Leicester (H); Liverpool (H)
Arsenal’s “Starboy” has taken his game up in leaps and bounds. He’s managed eight goals and six assists this season as Arsenal’s primary attacking threat and will want to keep his form up as Arsenal push for the top 4 as well. A game against Leicester could give him a good chance for points before a tricky home fixture against Liverpool. Still, a great option until the end of the season.
4. Joel Matip – £4.9m (DEF); 3.1% ownership
GW28 review – 0 points (missed fixture in GW28)
GW29 preview – Brighton (A); Arsenal (A)
Matip has been an underrated cog in Liverpool’s defence this season, sometimes rotating with Konaté (5.1m). Nonetheless, Matip has been very good for Liverpool defensively with 11 clean sheets and even a goal and an assist to show for it too. He remains a threat from corners too so will be a good differential option to Liverpool’s big three at the back.
5. Ivan Toney – £6.5m (FOR); 9.3% ownership
GW28 review – 17 points (90 minutes; three goals, 3BPS)
GW29 preview – Burnley (H)
Coming off a hat-trick in GW28, Toney will want to continue his rich vein of form against relegation rivals Burnley, who are off the back of conceding three against Chelsea. Toney has been an FPL favourite since the beginning of the season but failed to score regularly, yet he does still have nine goals and two assists to his name.
6. Christian Pulisic – £7.9m (MID); 0.8% ownership
GW28 review – 13 points (13 points vs Burnley; 0 vs Norwich)
GW29 preview – Newcastle (H)
Whenever Pulisic is fit, he starts down the left wing for Chelsea. He has been in and out of the team and a home game against Newcastle does look enticing on paper. Pulisic has four goals and an assist to his name this season and will want to continue to be a key contributor to Chelsea’s top 4 aspirations.
