The Premier Fantasy Tools FPL team rater scores any Fantasy Premier League squad out of 99 and assigns a letter grade from S down to F. It compares your squad's total predicted points against the mathematically optimal FPL squad for the same period, then maps that comparison onto a 0–99 scale. It works as a squad rater for a team you already own and as a draft builder for a team you are still putting together.
The optimal squad is the single highest-scoring valid 15 that can be assembled under the standard rules: a £100.0m budget, a maximum of three players per Premier League club, and exactly 2 goalkeepers, 5 defenders, 5 midfielders and 3 forwards. It is solved directly rather than estimated, so no squad scores higher for that gameweek range. Your rating is the distance between your draft and that ceiling.
Raw predicted points mean nothing on their own. 62 points over one gameweek and 348 over six describe the same quality of squad. Rating against the optimal squad makes every gameweek range directly comparable, so a 78 over one gameweek means the same thing as a 78 over six.
For every gameweek in the range the rater picks the best legal starting XI from your 15 players, doubles your highest-predicted starter as captain, and totals the result. The optimal squad is scored exactly the same way, so the comparison is like for like.
Scores are calibrated against thousands of sampled valid squads. A randomly assembled legal squad reaches only about 43% of the optimal squad's predicted points. A carefully built one reaches 86–93%. Because the top of that range is so tightly packed, small improvements matter a great deal: an A grade needs roughly 93% of optimal and an S grade around 96%. Most engaged managers land in the C to B range, and moving up from there is usually a question of two or three picks rather than a rebuild.
Not in the chatbot sense. There is no language model reading your squad and offering an opinion. The rating comes from two things: a trained prediction model that produces an expected points figure for every player, and a solver that calculates the best possible squad under the FPL rules. Your score is arithmetic performed on those two outputs.
The Premier Fantasy Tools model produces expected points for every player across all 38 gameweeks, accounting for fixture difficulty, expected minutes and availability. Injured and suspended players carry reduced predictions automatically, so a squad carrying an unavailable player is penalised without any manual adjustment.
Ask a general-purpose AI to rate your FPL team and you get a different answer each time, with no way to check the reasoning. This rater is deterministic: the same squad on the same day always produces the same score, and that score traces back to a specific number: the predicted points of a specific optimal squad. You can swap one player, watch the score move, and know exactly what that player cost you. Reproducibility is the point.
Building and rating a squad is completely free with no account. That includes:
A free account saves your drafts and keeps your best squad for each gameweek range, so you can come back to a draft and compare a new one against it player by player.
The same squad can be excellent for one gameweek and mediocre across a fixture run, so the rater lets you choose the window: anywhere from 1 to 6 gameweeks. A one-week rating rewards form and a single good fixture. A six-week rating rewards durable, nailed-on players who start every week over an opening run.
Five gameweeks is the default, matching the opening run most managers plan a preseason draft around. It is long enough that a single favourable fixture cannot inflate a weak squad, and short enough that the predicted points remain reliable. If you are chasing a differential for one big gameweek, switch to the one-week rating instead.
Because the rating assumes no transfers across the whole window, it answers a specific question: how good is this squad as drafted? That is exactly what a wildcard asks. Build a draft from scratch, check the 5 or 6 gameweek rating, swap a player and watch the score move.
Nothing here touches your real FPL team and there are no transfer hits, so you can iterate as many times as you like before committing the chip in the official game. Save your best attempt and come back to it as prices and predictions shift.
Your squad's predicted points over the chosen gameweek range are divided by the predicted points of the mathematically optimal valid squad for the same range. That ratio is mapped onto a 0–99 scale calibrated against thousands of sampled squads, so your score reflects how you compare with realistic teams rather than with a theoretical maximum nobody reaches.
Anything above 75, a B grade, is a competitive squad. 85 and above is an A grade and means you are within a few points of optimal. An S grade needs 93 or higher, which usually requires near-perfect value picks in every position. Most engaged managers land in the C to B range.
Yes. Building a squad, searching every Premier League player, and seeing squad value, money in the bank and full rule validation are free with no account. Your score and grade are free too. A free account saves your drafts and keeps your best squad for each gameweek range.

A rating is only produced for a squad that satisfies every FPL rule: exactly 15 players in a 2-5-5-3 split, total cost at or under £100.0m, and no more than three players from any single Premier League club. The rating panel lists whatever is still outstanding.

Yes. Choose a longer range such as 5 or 6 gameweeks and build a draft from scratch. The score shows how close your wildcard squad is to the best possible squad for that window, and you can swap players and watch it move. Nothing you do here affects your real FPL team.
You don't set a bench. For each gameweek in the range, the rater picks the best legal starting XI from your 15 players using that gameweek's predicted points and doubles the highest-predicted starter as captain. A player only contributes when he would be in that XI. The optimal comparison squad is scored exactly the same way. The rating also assumes no transfers across the rated period, which is what makes it a fair test of a squad as drafted.
