Modric’s Fantasy Football Career Takes In Another World Cup

Last updated on May 19th, 2026

The 2025/26 domestic Premier League campaign has been another thrilling one for fans up and down the country, and for many neutrals in the English top flight, it has been the multi layered battles at both the top, and bottom, of the division that have captured the attention and intrigued this season.

With the season coming to an official end next weekend with Sunday’s final day fixtures and the all important, final deciders as the curtain closes – if the future of some clubs still remains on the table – fans will naturally start reviewing and reflecting on the action that they have seen for the last ten odd months. Not only does that mean further distractions as they pivot from matchday betting to online slots. it also means the transfer window speculation rumour mill, but this summer there is also the small, and very expensive, matter of the summer World Cup out in North America to consider.

This years’ abomination will be co-hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico as FIFA continue to spread their tentacles even further and wider in the search of even more money for their self serving organisation. An organisation that the vast majority of fans undoubtedly wish would self implode inside of their own corruption greasing Peace Prize.

For those of us who still believe in the ‘beautiful game’ and marvel at the opportunity of watching some of the best and most graceful players on the planet strut their stuff, and put their silky skills on the world platform, successful and veteran midfielder Luka Modric will be back on show at this years competition.

The 40 year old Croatian international is well known across the top European leagues having played for Tottenham Hotspur, Real Madrid and Inter Milan most recently, so fans in England, Spain and Italy will definitely be watching on to see how he uses his experience and talents to outwit far younger members of the opposition’s starting line up.

As the old saying goes, professional players never lose their touch or vision, they just slow down a bit. Despite his tender age though Modric has not really slowed down in the last 12 odd months as although injury has ruled him out of the end of season run in for I Nerazzurri, he has still made 32 starting appearances this year for their first team squad, with a further three substitute showings across all competitions.

He was also involved in Los Blancos’s Club World Cup tournament last summer prior to making his free agent move to Serie A, meaning that he rather ridiculously played in a total of 73 relevant matches for club and country at domestic and international levels in the 2024/25 campaign.

If anything, last season’s far lighter schedule would have been all the rest he needed ahead of undoubtedly representing his country for the final time at a major international competition. His current injury will not be a problem or keep him sidelined, he suffered a broken cheekbone after a clash of heads at the end of April in the game against Juventus, but having already undergone surgery the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner will simply wear a mask for as long as is needed.

As many have pointed out, the additional rest will have actually only benefited him, and the fantasy players now tuning in to see how he gets on.
