For the most part, the Premier League season so far has been a roller coaster ride. Every week we try to find players who are not under the radar of most FPL managers but have good potential to provide returns. These differentials can help improve your rank if you are ready to take a brave call every once in a while, rather than always playing safe.

Reece James (Chelsea – Defender – £5.5m) vs NOR (H)

If you can make peace with the odd benching, James offers very good value for his price. We back him to start at least 2 of the next 3 games. Chelsea’s next 3 games are fairly easy NOR (H), NEW (A) & BUR (H). James has the potential for providing attacking returns and clean sheets for his FPL managers.

So far in 5 appearances (3 starts), he has scored 1 goal, provided 2 assists, and delivered 1 clean sheet. He has managed to create 5 chances with 1 big chance for his team, which is impressive given he has only played 191 minutes (38 minutes per chance created on average) of football. Chelsea has one of the best defense in the league who has conceded only 3 goals so far (joint best) and have managed to keep 5 clean sheets in 8 games (2nd highest). The table-toppers are expected to very well against bottom side Norwich. Current ownership is 5.1%.

Kai Havertz (Chelsea – Midfielder – £8.1m) vs NOR (H)

With Lukaku and Werner ruled out with injury, the German is expected to play up-front in the false 9 position. Havertz has made 7 appearances (4 starts) so far and scored 1 goal. He has also made 10 attempts on goal, 9 from inside the box, and 2 on target. These numbers are reasonable given the fact that he has not started many games.

Bottom side Norwich have one of the weakest defense in the league having conceded 16 goals (2nd highest) in 8 games. This game offers a very good opportunity for the German to make his case for a regular place in the starting lineup and we back him to deliver a solid performance. Current ownership is 4.5%.

Odsonne Edouard (Crystal Palace – Forward – £6.5m) vs NEW (H)

The French forward has made an immediate impact in his debut Premier League season. It took him just 6 minutes to score 2 goals on his debut against Tottenham when he came off the bench in GW4.

So far in 5 appearances (3 starts), he has scored 3 goals which includes a goal against Arsenal in GW8. In these games has made 9 attempts on goal, 7 from inside the box, and 5 on target. He has also managed to create 6 chances for his teammates. Newcastle are by far the weakest defense in the league and have conceded the most number of goals (19). They have not managed to keep a single clean sheet so far and have the highest xGC (Expected Goals Conceded) of 15.22. Considering his cheap price, and the 2.8% ownership, he is a solid differential option.

Callum Wilson (Newcastle United – Forward – £7.3m) vs CRY (A)

Wilson marked his return from injury with a goal against Tottenham in GW8. Even with his injury issues, Wilson is a very good FPL asset who regularly scores a lot of points. In 4 games this season, he has scored 3 goals. He is a constant goal threat who has made 11 attempts on goal so far, 8 from inside the box, and 5 on target. He has also managed to create 3 chances for his teammates.

Crystal Palace have conceded 8 goals over the last 4 games, and we expect Wilson to exploit their defensive frailties. Current ownership is just 1.2%.
