Gameweek 12 was all about goals, goals and more goals. There were 36 goals scored across ten matches that included two 3-all draws. Chelsea, Man City and Liverpool secured big wins to end the weekend in 1st, 2nd and 3rd place respectively. The weekend also saw as well as Watford securing a massive 4-1 victory against Man United, a result that saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lose his job. Elsewhere, new Spurs boss, Antonio Conte led Spurs to a 2-1 victory over Everton for their first win in his new reign. On the FPL front, this gameweek had an average of 57 points with two of the 6 picks returning points. Managers with assets tied up in the big three sides will be counting on them to produce across a busy festive period.

Gameweek 12 top 3 performers:

1. Trent Alexander-Arnold – 15 points (90 minutes, clean sheet, 2 assists, 3BPS)

2. Tyrone Mings – 15 points (90 minutes, clean sheet, 1 goal, 3BPS)

=3. Antonio Rudiger – 14 points (90 minutes, clean sheet, 1 goal, 2BPS)

=3. Emmanuel Dennis – 14 points (90 minutes, 1 goal, 2 assists, 3BPS)

Let’s take a look at this week’s picks, reviewing their GW12 performance and previewing their GW13 points potential

1. Trent-Alexander-Arnold – £7.8m (DEF); 34.0% ownership

GW12 review – performance noted under top 3 performers

GW13 preview – Southampton (H)

Liverpool’s main playmaker and source of assists has been outstanding this season with him and Man City fullback Joao Cancelo (£6.7m) level on 79 points so far this season. After notching two assists against Arsenal last week, TAA now has six assists and a goal to his name this season. A game against a Southampton side who lost against Norwich comes at a bad time as Liverpool have found good rhythm again following the loss to West Ham. TAA owners will be hoping he continues his purple patch of form.

2. Mohamed Salah – £13.0m (MID); 72.1% ownership

GW12 review – 8 points (90 minutes, one goal, clean sheet)

GW13 preview – Southampton (H)

Mo Salah continues to break records as he joined an elite £13.om club and an exclusive Salah-only 70%+ ownership club. The Liverpool talisman joins his team-mate above and makes my picks for the 2nd time this season. The Egyptian remains the only player to score over 100 FPL points so far this season so his form is hard to ignore. With 11 goals and eight assists already, Salah will be hoping to add to that tally this week. Southampton got caught out against Norwich last week and will need to go above and beyond their best to keep Salah and co. out. Expect most managers to give him the armband this week.

3. Gabriel Magalhaes – £5.1m (DEF); 2.3% ownership

GW12 review – 0 points (90 minutes)

GW13 preview – Newcastle (H)

Gabriel has proven himself to be a very good defender and a key component to the way Mikel Arteta likes to play. He is robust and gets involved in plenty of physical challenges. Arsenal need to bounce back from their humbling against Liverpool last week and a home game against winless Newcastle presents a good chance to do so. They will need to strengthen defensively and Gabriel will be key to that. He also offers a strong threat for goals from set-pieces.

4. Ederson – £6.0m (GK); 9.1% ownership

GW12 review – 6 points (90 minutes, clean sheet)

GW13 preview – West Ham (H)

The Man City goalkeeper is probably the only safe option against Pep Roulette after Ruben Dias (£6.0m) was benched last week. Ederson is such a consistent figure and is a big factor behind their seven clean sheets this season. One of the premium options as a goalkeeper, his price is justified by him regularly playing and City keeping clean sheets often. City should have enough quality in their team to keep West Ham out and he could possibly rack up some save points this week too.

5. Raul Jimenez – £7.8m (FOR); 11.8% ownership

GW12 review – 8 points (90 minutes, one goal, 2BPS)

GW13 preview – Norwich (A)

Despite Norwich showing some good form with back-to-back victories, I still feel that they are a side to be targeted. Jimenez is well and truly back on form and scored the only goal of the game against West Ham last week. On paper, this fixture is easier so his chances of scoring do increase. HE will be hoping to add to his three goals and three assists already this season. He is also a fixture-proof option and has proven he can score against anyone. Wolves do face Burnley at home next week so he has potential for back-to-back points returns.

6. Sergio Reguilon – £5.1m (DEF); 11.3% ownership

GW12 review – 9 points (78 minutes, one goal, 1BPS)

GW13 preview – Burnley (A)

Reguilon has shown that he could be one of the names to look out for under Antonio Conte. He notched his first goal playing as a wingback meaning he now adds the potential of goals and assists to his game, as well as clean sheets as Conte will place emphasis on having a strong defence. Spurs have a run of great fixtures coming up and will need to capitalise on it to mount a strong challenge for the top four. Reguilon will be a good addition to FPL managers’ squads to add to either Son (£10.3m) or Kane (£12.2m)
