What is FDR in Fantasy Premier League?

FDR (Fixture Difficulty Rating) is Fantasy Premier League's rating of how hard each upcoming match is for a team, on a scale of 1 to 5. A rating of 1 or 2 is an easy fixture, 3 is average, and 4 or 5 is a tough one. FPL managers use FDR to plan transfers, choose captains and decide when to play chips.

How FPL FDR works

The official FPL FDR is set by Fantasy Premier League based on the strength of each opponent, with home and away fixtures rated separately. On the official FPL site, the scale is colour-coded:

  • 1 (dark green): very easy
  • 2 (light green): easy
  • 3 (grey): average
  • 4 (light red): hard
  • 5 (dark red): very hard

The official FDR is a useful starting point, but it has limits. It gives one rating per fixture for the whole team, so it doesn't show whether a fixture is good for your attackers, your defenders, or both. It also changes infrequently, so it can lag behind current form.

FPL Fixture Difficulty (FDR) FAQs

What do the rankings mean?

Within each gameweek, every team is ranked from 1 to 20 (using PFT ratings) or 1 to 5 (using official FPL FDR). A ranking of 1 indicates an easy fixture. The fixtures are also colour-coded with shades of green being the easiest, red being the hardest, and yellow being neutral. Home fixtures are shown in capitals and away fixtures in lower case.

What does green mean in FPL FDR?

Green means an easier fixture. In the official FPL FDR, that's a rating of 1 (dark green) or 2 (light green). Players facing a run of green fixtures are popular transfer targets.

What factors are considered in the difficulty rankings?

Fixture difficulty rankings take into account the following factors:

  • Premier League Fixture Difficulty Rating (FDR)
  • Home and away performance per team
  • In addition, for defensive positions:
    • Overall team defensive performance (including goals against, probability of clean sheet)
    • Opponent affinity for scoring (goals for, form)
  • In addition, for offensive positions:
    • Overall team attack performance (including goals for, probability of scoring a goal)
    • Opponent affinity for stopping goals (goals against, form)

Is the official FPL FDR accurate?

It's a reasonable guide, but it's broad. It rates each fixture as a whole rather than attack and defence separately, and it can be slow to reflect changes in form. Many managers combine it with position-based ratings, such as the PFT ratings on this page, to get a fuller picture.

How can I use it to plan rotation for my FPL team?

You can drag/drop and remove rows to better compare and plan rotation. You can group the teams you are interested in together and compare rotation strategies.

How many gameweeks ahead should I look at FDR?

Most managers plan 4 to 6 gameweeks ahead. That's long enough to spot good fixture runs without relying too much on ratings that may change.

When are fixture difficulty rankings updated?

Fixture difficulty charts and rankings are updated each gameweek. They will factor in Premier League data from the most recent gameweeks. The official FPL FDR is adjusted by Fantasy Premier League occasionally during the season.

FPL Fixture Difficulty Explained: FPL FDR vs PFT Ratings

This tool was created to enhance the official Fantasy Premier League FDR, and lets you switch between FPL and PFT ratings. PFT ratings build on the official FPL FDR in three ways:

  • More up to date: ratings are reviewed and updated after each gameweek, factoring in recent Premier League form.
  • More granular: every team is ranked 1 to 20 each gameweek instead of 1 to 5.
  • By position: separate attacking and defensive ratings show which fixtures suit your midfielders and forwards, and which suit your goalkeeper and defenders.

Rankings by position are the most important difference. They give FPL managers much more insight into how to organise their teams, which formations to consider, and more.
